Q1. What is yoga?
A1. In simple terms yoga means union of the body, mind and spirit. The word yoga has been derived from the sanskrit word" YUJ", which means to join on a higher level the spiritual goal of yoga is to merge individula consciousness with the universal consciousness.
 
Q2. Who can do yoga?
A2. Anyone, of any age or physical condition with a desire to learn yoga can do yoga.
 
Q3. Can I do yoga, even if I have an injury or ailments?
A3. Yes, when you are ready mentally and physically, you can start yoga. You have to tell the teacher of your medical background and at Aatamdarshan yoga, the yoga asanas and other techniques can be custom made to suit your requirements.
 
Q4. By doing yoga do I have to change my religion, faith or belief?
A4. NO, yoga is a universal spiritual science and individuals of any faith, religion or belief without any change can practice it. Regular yoga practice always helps to find the real meaning of your spiritual beliefs.Yoga is a way of life, definately not religion.
 
Q5. What is Aatamdarshan Yoga? Is it different from other schools of yoga?
A5. At Aatamdarshan yoga , Hatha yoga is taught in its original form as enunciated in yoga sutras, compiles by the stage patanjali around 500 B.C. Patanjali founded the yoga school as one of the 6 schools of indian philosophy. Yoga can be traditionally categorized in four paths of yoga--- gyana yoga (the path of union through knowledge ; Bhakti yoga (the path of devotion); karma yoga (the path of detachement & selfless action ): and raja yoga ( the path of union by training your mind through mind). Hatha yoga is a part of raja yoga , where the aspirant trains his mind through training of the body through asanas behives in practising "Yama" & "Niyama" in daily life, which are the foundation of patanjali's eight-fold path of yoga (also called Ashtanga yoga). At Aatmadarshan yoga, the practioner is encouraged to discover his or her own path on the journey of yoga, since each individual’s experience with yoga is different and one has to realize and know oneself by regulatr practice of yoga.
 
Q6. Is it necessary to become vegetarian for practicing yoga?
A6. While it is not necessary to be a vegetarian, to derive maximum benefit from yoga practice, being a vegetarian would help. However, even meat eaters would be able to progress gradually.
 
Q7. Do I have to change my lifestyle to do yoga?
A7. No, one can practice yoga and integrate it with one’s career, household responsibilities, eating Habits and daily routine.With reguler practice of asanas & pranayam, your body will decide itself what to accept and what to reject. Though a certain amount of commitment is necessary to sustain the yoga practice. Gradually yoga would become a part of your lifestyle, which is the aim of teaching at Aatamdarshan yoga.
 
Q8. Do I have to find a teacher or become a swami to do yoga?
A8. Yes, it is important to find a good teacher to learn yoga in the correct way and derive maximum benefit.However it is not necessary to become a swami, (follow the monastic life by renouncing the world) as one can be a yogi even as a householder and remain a part of society. Hatha yoga is prescribed for the householders.
 
Q9. What is hatha yoga?
A9. The word "Hatha" is comprised two sanskrit words "Hum" & "Thum" which mean sun and moon respectively. The aim of Hatha yoga is to balance the sun and moon energy located in the stomach(navel) and the brain(mind) respectively. Practice of Hatha yoga balances these two energies, to acheive the ultimate goal of yoga i.e. Samadhi. Householders can safely practice Hatha yoga to lead a healthy, balanced and a prosoerous life.
 
Q10. Do I have to continue coming to yoga center teacher always to continue my practice?
A10. Once you have sufficiently progressed in the practice of asanas, kriya and meditation, you can practice independently. However, it is advisable to keep it touch with your yoga center/ teacher to further refine , evolve and delve deeper into your spiritual journey. Also doing yoga in a group is more beneficial mentally and emotionally.
